About IEM

Malaysia’s largest professional engineering organisation

The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) was established in 1959 with the primary function to promote and advance the science and profession of engineering in any, or all, of its disciplines, and to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas related to engineering.

IEM has strived to introduce the achievements of Malaysian engineering at various platforms all over the world. The organisation was admitted as a member of the Commonwealth Engineers Council (CEC) in 1962 and since then, it has been participating actively in international bodies. IEM is a member of the World Federation of Engineering Organisation (WFEO) and the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries (FEIIC).

In addition, IEM currently hosts the Secretariat of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO), the ASEAN Engineer Register (AER), the Federation of Engineering Institutions Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP), and it is also the local Register for the APEC/IntPE International Engineer Register. Malaysia’s largest professional organisation with an international reach for Engineering with a strength of over 50,000 Members from 16 various engineering disciplines and multiple technical divisions:
