A catalyst of growth for the nation and region

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 March, 2023 – The Malaysian Engineering Exhibition and Conference 2023 (ENGINEER) and its concurrent exhibition, the Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration & Ventilation Expo 2023 (MARVEX) is scheduled to run from 6 to 9 September in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Unveiling the second instalment of the event in a Soft Launch ceremony, the exhibitions are booked to catalyse growth for the nation and the ASEAN region to bring new sustainability concepts and cutting-edge engineering solutions, as the industry is poised to capitalise on emerging opportunities in the market.

During which, The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), the Malaysian Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Association (MACRA) and C.I.S announced the exhibition’s theme as “A Business Gateway to Engineering and ACMV & R in ASEAN”. The theme signifies the exhibition’s key positioning to convene the industry’s best minds, biggest names and cutting-edge solution providers to serve as an important marketplace for all stakeholders to source the latest solutions and drive conversations on pressing issues from the impact of climate change, environment, digitalisation and technology in the Engineering and Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration and Ventilation (ACMV & R) industry.

C.I.S President and Joint Organiser for ENGINEER and MARVEX, Dato’ Vincent Lim said, “The Business Events industry is picking up its pace and the stronger internal growth will attract foreign investments, positioning ENGINEER & MARVEX as one of the many business events presented to drive growth in the industry”.

Lim added, “This year, we expect to see 10,000 trade and professional visitors coming together as a community in a premier exhibition and conference to source, network, collaborate, and exchange ideas.”

The Engineering and ACMV & R industry plays a pivotal role post-pandemic with the global economy in full recovery mode, as new and revived infrastructure, construction and other development projects come to the fore propelling the growth of economies in the region. The industry is essential to economic growth, supporting energy efficiency, and developing and maintaining critical infrastructure. Its contribution to society is significant, and it will continue to be an essential sector for years to come.

During the Soft Launch, the Deputy Director General of Public Works Department, Dato’ Ir. Hj. Zulkipli bin Hj. Nasri said, “The government is spearheading policies and strategies aimed at stimulating vibrant and sustainable socio-economic growth, and with the support and strategic partnership of the private sector, I am confident our nation is well on its journey to achieve a Developed Nation status”.

For this to materialise, the industry needs a platform like ENGINEER and MARVEX to convene the Engineering and ACMV & R community within the regional industry, bringing together experts, manufacturers, trade buyers, investors and industry leaders to showcase their products, share knowledge and exchange ideas on the latest development in the field. The goal is to promote the growth and advancement of the Engineering and ACMV & R industry and provide a platform for networking and collaboration among industry stakeholders within the region.

Dato’ Zulkipli added, “ENGINEER and MARVEX will steer its focus towards green initiatives and cutting-edge solutions. I look forward to greater commitment towards environmental stewardship from the private sector, which will attract local as well as foreign investments in green technologies”.

The key activities of ENGINEER & MARVEX are drivers of trade, business, construction and technology with a key focus on ESG-led innovation. The 4-day event will bring together the industry’s best minds to foster a greater common understanding of how engineering solutions could help build a better tomorrow with future technologies. In which, IEM President, Ir. Prof. Dr Norlida bt Buniyamin mentioned, “Engineering conferences and exhibitions play a vital role in stimulating the industry and encouraging sustainability practices through technology advancement”.

She added, “IEM is confident that this platform will empower engineers and practitioners to take a vital role in nation-building, as well as building sustainable world-class infrastructure and production facilities that will place Malaysia on the global map”.

Apart from showcasing the latest in technology, ENGINEER and MARVEX plays a pivotal role in creating awareness and seeking solutions for issues that challenge the industry via its conferences, symposiums, workshops, talks and networking sessions. The event will also bring together the collective voice of industry players that can be influential in driving policy changes that prioritise sustainability practices, leading to a more sustainable future for the industry and the environment. This year, ENGINEER 2023 will unite three key pillars of engineering, namely Mechanical & Electrical, Civil & Structural, and ACMV & R, the largest sub-sectors and disciplines in engineering.

MACRA President, Mr. Peter Tan said, “Our role at MACRA has always been to ensure that ACMV & R industry across Malaysia and ASEAN continues to improve cross border requirements to unify the ACMV & R industry stakeholders. This is in line with the need for the industry to grow in tandem with the construction of new buildings, with better ventilation systems and Indoor Air Quality requirements”.

He added, “With MARVEX, we have the ultimate regional platform for all ASEAN countries to come together to develop and unify the diversity of the industry. The platform is most apt, as ESG plays a big role in ACMV & R”.

Both local and international key industry leaders from across the ASEAN region, including engineering and allied professionals, government delegations, industry players, trade associations, business chambers as well as international investors will converge to share their knowledge and experience the changes in the industry as businesses embrace digitalisation and Environmental, Social, and Governance- (ESG) inspired technology. ENGINEER & MARVEX will foster partnerships and collaborations that can fuel economic growth, create job opportunities, and contribute to the development of the region. By doing so, ENGINEER & MARVEX will create a legacy that will benefit generations to come.

In a prelude to the Soft Launch, Organising Chairman of ENGINEER 2023, Ir. Yau Chau Fong presented Malaysia’s largest symposium and conference. The IEM Convention themed “Advancing the Industry Forward Through ESG” seeks to inspire with new perspectives and tackle the greatest engineering challenges of our time.

With local and international visionary speakers presenting over 20 engaging topics, delegates will convene for thought-provoking discussions and updates of the constantly evolving engineering industry, harness and challenge their engineering knowledge by immersing in future forward ESG-themed subjects to foster a greater common understanding of how engineering solutions could build a better tomorrow.
