As Data Centres Scale, Infrastructure Gets Smarter

As data centres become larger and more compute-intensive, the infrastructure behind them is changing too. The rise of innovative solutions spanning power, cooling and infrastructure intelligence demonstrate how the industry is responding to greater density and operational complexity.

GTE Solutions highlighted server racks, customised power distribution units, busway systems and infrastructure monitoring designed for hyperscale facilities. Business Development Manager Mohd Zilal Mazuki said, “The shift towards much larger data centres is creating new infrastructure requirements, while local manufacturing offers opportunities to deliver more cost-effective solutions.”

Dylan Yuen, Managing Director at CITEC International (Thailand) said “Higher computing density is changing how data centres need to be cooled. At CITEC International, we’re looking at cooling right at the rack, while our Fully Isolated Dual Row Hot Aisle Containment System keeps hot exhaust air separate from the cold air supplied to equipment. That helps cooling systems perform more efficiently in high-density, AI-ready environments.”

But physical infrastructure is only part of the equation. As connected assets multiply, operators face a growing volume of operational data.

“Nowadays, you have a lot of connected assets and a lot of data. You need a platform to digest it,” said Nicholas Tee of Eaton Industries.

Eaton’s Brightlayer DCIM brings power, space and cooling information into a real-time management environment, with predictive analytics and generative AI being explored to help operators prioritise alarms and identify possible resolutions. Tee said the evolution goes beyond monitoring, with data increasingly supporting capacity planning and operational decisions as facilities expand.

Together, the technologies point to the next challenge in data centre engineering. As facilities scale in size and density, performance will increasingly depend on how effectively power, cooling and infrastructure intelligence work together.
