Revolutionising Fire Safety: Malaysia to Debut First Data Centre Fire Protection Guideline in the Region

The Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia is set to release the National Guideline on Data Centres within the next two weeks, as announced by Yang Amat Setia Dato’ Technologist (Ts.) Nor Hisham bin Mohamad. This guideline will mark Malaysia as the first country in Southeast Asia to introduce such a standard.

Dato’ Nor Hisham emphasised that data centre facilities present unique risks, and the existing legislation accommodates provisions for considering other international standards.

“Currently, we are referencing the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards from the United States for these facilities,” he stated.

The department has actively engaged with industry stakeholders involved in the development of data centres to ensure comprehensive guidelines.
