Strengthening Industry–Community Synergies: IEM and MBMB Renew MoU at ENGINEER & MARVEX 2025

The renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah (MBMB) at ENGINEER & MARVEX 2025 reinforces the pivotal role of engineering in shaping safer, smarter, and more sustainable cities.

First signed in 2023 and renewed biennially, the MoU formalises IEM’s support in providing engineering expertise and professional advice to MBMB, while also enabling the council to enhance public awareness of engineering practices and safety standards. Together, this collaboration ensures that technical knowledge is translated into tangible benefits for communities.

IEM President Ir Prof Dr Jeffrey Chiang Choong Luin highlighted the significance of anchoring the renewal at ENGINEER & MARVEX, noting that the exhibition offers unparalleled visibility and direct exposure to cutting-edge innovations. “Engineering isn’t stagnant; there are always new ways of doing things. ENGINEER & MARVEX provides an important platform for engineers, especially SMEs, to explore global technologies and solutions that can be adapted to local needs,” he said.

At its core, this MoU underscores the shared responsibility between industry and government to raise professional standards, foster innovation, and safeguard the public. By aligning municipal needs with engineering expertise, the partnership creates a framework where infrastructure, safety, and community well-being advance hand in hand.
