KLEF Engineers Resilience into Malaysia’s Energy Future

As Malaysia navigates rising energy demand alongside the transition to a more sustainable energy future, KLEF 2026 opens by tackling the emerging issues surrounding energy, from security and resilience to regulation, infrastructure and the transition itself.

This focus sits at the heart of the 3rd Kuala Lumpur Engineering Forum (KLEF) 2026, jointly organised by The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) and C.I.S. Officiated by YB Hannah Yeoh, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), her keynote examined how engineering Malaysia’s critical lifelines underpins national resilience, security and future economic growth.

“We have demonstrated that we can build major infrastructure. Now, we must demonstrate that we can build integrated, intelligent and resilient infrastructure at scale,” she added.

Her message emphasised the need for a more integrated approach to infrastructure planning and delivery, recognising the growing interdependencies between energy, water, buildings, digital systems and urban resilience.

YB Yeoh also witnessed a momentous signing of a  Memorandum of Understanding between Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) and The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), establishing a framework to bring engineering expertise more directly into Kuala Lumpur’s future development.

The partnership will advance knowledge sharing, R&D, innovation and talent development, connecting engineering expertise with Kuala Lumpur’s urban challenges and reinforcing KLEF’s role in shaping a more sustainable, future-ready city.

Day One of KLEF brought together a strong panel of local and international policymakers, regulators, engineers and industry leaders, discussing Malaysia’s energy transition standards, safety and regulatory alignment, setting the tone for the conversations and decisions that will shape the industry’s future.

Stay tuned for Day Two as KLEF explores how global standards, engineering design, commissioning and operational excellence can translate sustainability ambitions into high-performing, future-ready infrastructure.
